From Pet Sitting to Luxury Pet Care

The story of K9 Resorts began in 1999, when Steven, at the age of 14, and Jason, just 12, started K-9 Guardians Professional Pet Sitting. What began as a way to earn extra money quickly turned into a lifelong passion. However, their vision for the future of pet care truly transformed in 2002 when Steven attended an international pet care conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Seeing the success of other pet professionals at the conference inspired them to dream bigger. They envisioned creating a luxury hotel for dogs – a place where pets could enjoy premium care, comfort, and safety while their owners were away.

Determined to make their dream a reality, Steven and Jason spent years traveling across the U.S., researching the best practices and visiting top-tier pet care facilities. In 2005, they purchased and custom-built a state-of-the-art pet care facility in Fanwood, NJ, designing it to be one of the finest luxury pet hotels in the nation. Their hard work paid off as K9 Resorts quickly gained recognition and became the #1-rated pet care facility in New Jersey, according to multiple major publications.

Expanding the Vision

By 2010, Steven and Jason wanted to share their success and expertise with other pet lovers, so they decided to franchise K9 Resorts. After partnering with SMB Franchise Advisors to guide them through the process, they officially became a franchise company in 2011. Just two months later, they sold their first franchise to a long-time customer.

As demand for K9 Resorts’ luxury services grew, the original Fanwood location underwent a major expansion in 2015, doubling its size to accommodate more pets and ensure continued excellence in service. By 2015, K9 Resorts had earned national recognition as the #1 rated pet care facility in the country, and the brand's growth continued to soar.

Today, K9 Resorts operates and develops over 145 locations across the U.S., offering premium dog daycare and boarding services nationwide.
